so you're dead...
Torna, and Ginosa in particular, is a dangerous place. People die all the time and from all manner of causes. But they don't have to stay dead. Not if you know the right person to talk to.

Maybe you've heard his name without actually knowing who he is, whispered in the back of smoky bars or deep in the shadows of dark alleys: Mr. Wick. And maybe you've tried to question people who seem to be in the know about who this mystery man is, but nobody's willing to divulge the information. They change the subject, tell you "never you mind," or simply refuse to answer.

At least, that's what happens until someone overhears you talking about someone close to you who has died recently. Suddenly, every stranger's your solicitous friend, telling you "Go talk to Wick about that. Wick'll help you out. For a price." And when you ask around a little more, when you mention that Wick was recommended to you because someone close to you died, well, some other helpful soul will inform you that all you've gotta do is perform a rite.

Nothing fancy. Nothing dangerous. It's easy, only takes a few minutes. It starts with getting three people together. Just draw a circle on a piece of paper and set it on a table. Light three candles—red, white, and black— and set them one on either side and the last on the topmost edge of the paper. Then each person drips a drop of your blood directly into the center of the circle. Count to thirteen and if you did it right, a red door will appear on the wall beside you. Step inside, follow the path, and that'll take you to Mr. Wick.

And Mr. Wick, he's an agreeable fellow. He wants to help, don't you fret. But he's going to have a price and if you want a resurrection, you're going to have to pay it.

here's the deal
Death in Ginosa works as a CR building exercise. When your character dies, three of your character's associates must go to Mr. Wick and petition him to work the resurrection magic to bring your character back to life. These three characters can be friends of your character, members of your character's family/faction, or a combination of the two. You as the player must work it out with the players of the other characters.

Upon making the resurrection request of Mr. Wick, he will require each of these three characters to give up something valuable. The dead character will also be required to do this before being permitted to leave Mr. Wick's abode.

Once the resurrection is complete, all PCs involved will lose the memory of what transpired. They won't remember performing the rite or speaking to Mr. Wick and they certainly won't remember the price they paid to bring the dead character back to life. In addition to this, the paper and candles, along with the cuts the characters made for the drops of blood, will have disappeared. The three characters who made the trip to Wick's will wake up back in their homes. The dead character will wake up in the wing of the hospital. The explanation for what the characters think happened is up to the dead character's player.

For example, Character A dies and Characters B, C, and D request resurrection. After they've all paid the price required, they leave through the red door and immediately forget what happened. Characters B, C, and D are back at home and think nothing of it. Character A wakes up in the hospital and is told something like "oh, the doctor was wrong in the death diagnosis" or "the people who found you dead were mistaken, you was just unconscious with these injuries and were brought into the hospital." When A tells people, including B, C, and D, this, it seems reasonable and everyone continues to go about their lives.

Please note: Resurrections can be performed on a character three times. The fourth death is permanent. Characters who die a fourth time must be dropped from the game.

What each character is asked to pay for the resurrection varies. The only constant is that it must be valuable to them: a skill, a sense, a memory, an object, whatever. If it's an object, the character will believe it was lost or stolen. If it's something intangible, like a skill or a memory, they will forget it ever existed. If the loss is a sense or a limb or something of that nature, they will believe it was lost due to an injury.

resurrection
Occasionally, the mods may introduce a plot or event that calls for volunteers to die. Depending on the plot/event, these deaths may not count toward the limit or the price for resurrection may be greatly reduced. OOCly, we don't want to penalize players for participating in events. ICly, the inconsistency of the ratio between the number of deaths and a character's permanent disappearance should help keep characters on their toes and prevent attitudes like "Oh well, X can die two more times before he dies for good" from developing.

If you would like to have your character die, just complete the form below. Once we've approved it, you'll be good to go.
